Deanery 40 Hours Adoration...

It was wonderful to see this so well kept at St Wilfrid's yesterday. Most of the times I popped into Church there were two or three or more people there, and there was never any danger of the Blessed Sacrament being left unattended. I recognised visitors from Ashby and Shepshed parishes, and there may have been some from elsewhere.

Today Adoration moves on to Sacred Heart, Loughorough. Please make the little journey to Loughborough if you can. The Church is easy to find, right next door to an enormous Tesco store.

A reminder of the programme:

Loughborough Deanery Forty Hours Adoration

The Forty Hours Devotion got off to a good start at Shepshed this morning. It was good to see representation from Coalville there. I look forward to seeing many of you for our big day tomorrow - and we are encouraged to visit the other Churches taking part as well. A reminder of the programme....

"The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
is the best time you will spend on earth.
Each moment that you spend with Jesus
will deepen your union with Him
and make your soul everlastingly
more glorious and beautiful in Heaven,
and will help bring about everlasting peace on earth."
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

St Clare's May Devotion

We had a lovely Procession and Crowning of Our Lady at St Clare's School this afternoon. The sound of so many voices singing our Ave around the school made me feel I was in Walsingham or Lourdes.

You Are Living Stones Update

Quite a lot has been happening over the last few months and it is time for an update.

In February the priests of the diocese met with the bishop. The bishop announced some proposals for linking parishes. He stressed that these were not set in stone but were the basis for further consultation.

The bishop asked every parish to consult on these proposals. Here at St Wilfrid's we did this by means of a questionnaire. A summary of the results can be found here.

Bishop Malcolm also asked every deanery to hold an open meeting to look at the proposals. Ours was held at De Lisle School on the evening Pope Francis was elected. It was a very positive and well-attended meeting. A full report of the meeting can be read here, and a short summary here.

Every thing has now been sent to the diocese, and circulated to the parishes of the deanery. I attended a meeting of deans at the Cathedral recently, and following this meeting a small sub-group of deans started to look in detail at our responses, and the responses which had come in from all over our diocese.

I am very impressed with the way in which the parish and deanery have contributed to this consultation. Please continue to pray for all who will have to make decisions based on our input.

Bishop Malcolm

Bishop Malcolm has been readmitted to hospital because his recuperation has not gone as quickly recently as it had been. He is in good spirits, and I commend him to everyone’s prayers.

Mary's Month

The flowers are at last blooming to welcome Mary's month. This afternoon I visited the Costalot site  near Bagworth in our parish, and blessed this statue of our Lady for the travelling people there. Then we stood in the lovely spring sunshine and said the Rosary together.

O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen
