An Alternative Look at the World Cup
Despite the Brazilian Government promising that
no public money will be used to fund the World Cup, more than 90% of the cost will come from public funding, paid by
Brazilian taxpayers. Brazil has around 40 million people living in poverty, and
of these 16 million people are living in extreme poverty. Brazil desperately needs thousands of schools, creches,
hospitals, public transport, and homes for its people. Will you stand by the people of Brazil? Click here.

An Alternative Look at the World Cup
England
was scheduled to play their first match in a new stadium in Manaus in the
Amazon region, costing at least £165m. The Amazon region is home to 80% of Brazil’s indigenous
population, some of the most vulnerable people in Brazil. Infant
mortality among the Yanomami people has doubled in the last 13 years, yet in
2013, 0% of £16.1m Brazilian health
budget was spent on basic sanitation to prevent disease in indigenous
villages. CAFOD has been working in the Amazon Region area for decades
and our partners have been protecting the rights of indigenous people to land
and health care. Will you stand by the people of Brazil? Click here.

and South Africa combined. The cost works out at £37.2 million
for each of the 64 matches. Will you stand by the people of Brazil? Click here to find out more.
