An Alternative Look at the World Cup

England was scheduled to play their first match in a new stadium in Manaus in the Amazon region, costing at least £165m. The Amazon region is home to 80% of Brazil’s indigenous population, some of the most vulnerable people in Brazil. Infant mortality among the Yanomami people has doubled in the last 13 years, yet in 2013, 0% of £16.1m Brazilian health budget was spent on basic sanitation to prevent disease in indigenous villages.
