England
was scheduled to play their first match in a new stadium in Manaus in the
Amazon region, costing at least £165m. The Amazon region is home to 80% of Brazil’s indigenous
population, some of the most vulnerable people in Brazil. Infant
mortality among the Yanomami people has doubled in the last 13 years, yet in
2013, 0% of £16.1m Brazilian health
budget was spent on basic sanitation to prevent disease in indigenous
villages. CAFOD has been working in the Amazon Region area for decades
and our partners have been protecting the rights of indigenous people to land
and health care. Will you stand by the people of Brazil? Click here.
